Art For Equality Nashville: A Benefit and Retrospective for Terry DeMars

Sat Aug 3, 6-9 pm, Shenanigoats Yoga, 1046 Westchester Dr, Madison, TN 37115

Art for Equality Nashville, a DIY collective of queer and non-binary artists and their allies, invites you to attend their annual art show. This year the event serves as a benefit and retrospective for Terry DeMars. Terry is the founder of Gay and Lesbian Nashville and a co-founder of LGBTQIA Nashville, both of which have played critical roles in building the queer and non-binary community in Nashville. Terry is also a prolific artist who has had to hang up his brushes as he deals with progressive blindness and ongoing treatment. Our goal for this show is to wrap Terry in the love of the community that he has helped to establish as we share the work from some of Nashville’s best queer and non-binary artists and performers.

§  Artists will display their work including paintings from our featured artist Terry DeMars, visual art from Kristen Crist at The Quirky Lamb, jewelry and mobiles from Niki Albertson at White Crane Gifts, punk feminist cross stitch from Cassie Wade, Tory Chang’s stoneware from PawTory Works, One girl’s creations from Warrick Melissa, visual art from Anna Rogers of Iron Hag Studios, paintings and live caricature from Gregory Lannom’s World  of Woohoo, acrylic paintings from Melody Lee, accessories by Capi Ortiz of AdventureKid Designs, visual art from Finn Levi Basil, and various pieces from Poverty and the Arts.

§  There will be performances by local powerhouse DJ Jane Dupree, poet Gregory Lannom, singer songwriter Sarah Cait Rayman, feuer hexe Ava Satanas, punk band Graduates Rise, and cabaret from the Countess of Cachtice-Hrad Gia Bathory and the Goddess Divine herself Misty Mystique.

§  Representatives from Tennessee Equality Project and Fair Funding for TSU will also be onsite to talk about ways you can get involved in helping to advance equality for Nashville’s LGBTQ and African American communities.

§  There will be a silent auction and a raffle. Many of our artists will have items for sale. Please bring cash to purchase art, to tip our performers, and to support our Terry DeMars fund. Many of our vendors will also accept credit cards.

§  This event is free, for all ages, and open to the public. Wine and light refreshments will be provided while it lasts.

§  Parking is available at Shenanigoats (1046 Westchester Dr., Madison, TN, 37115). Parking is also available along the street according to city regulations. Overflow parking is available at Extreme Electric located across the street.
